Legalisation

Legalisation of a document means to certify its authenticity at the corresponding ministry and the Consular department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sofia. As a result the document is given an Apostille and our translation – a certification.

For some countries, which are not members to the Hague Convention, the document must also be certified at the Embassy of the corresponding country.

It is possible to get an Apostille only on the territory of the country where the document was issued and/or executed.

The legalization is necessary in order to make a Bulgarian document legally valid on the territory of another country, respectively for a document from another country which is to be used in Bulgaria. There are a number of requirements to the documents which are submitted for legalisation; however, it should be borne in mind that legalisation is not necessary for some countries. On the other hand, some documents cannot be legalised. Therefore we recommend that you show us in person the document which you want us to legalise, or, to scan it and e-mail it to us so that we could give you the most accurate information. Our staff has considerable experience in the legalization of documents and are familiar with all peculiarities of this process.

• Regular legalisation – 7 office days.

This term does not include the time required for the translation and refers to civil status documents and documents from another country which have an Apostille or documents which have the certification of a Consular Office at a Bulgarian Embassy abroad. If the document requires a certification at the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Culture, etc., the procedure will take longer.
